Job Description
The public sector client is looking to recruit a Analyst for a short term temporary contract, which can be based in London or Leeds. Currently the assignment enables you to work remotely. The contract is up until the end of the financial year (end of March 2022) with a possibility of extension thereafter.
The MoJ is looking to recruit 3 analysts (data scientists, statisticians or quantitative analysts) to undertake a number of short-term projects. The projects will use our newly created reoffending cohort dataset (a dataset which brings together data from across the MoJ into one linked dataset) to answer a number of research questions.
Essential Skills & Experience
The following experience and skills are essential:
1. Technical
a. Excellent data manipulation and quantitative analysis skills, including manipulation of large, complex datasets.
b. Experience of conducting statistical analysis using R.
c. Familiarity and practical knowledge of using statistical techniques for analysing trends and drivers of trends over time.
d. Is proficient in interpreting and summarising data and analysis so as to identify salient points, trends and logical inferences.
e. Identify and understand the validity, relevance and limitations of different sources of evidence.
f. Experience of communicating and presenting complex data analysis is easy for non-specialists to comprehend.
2. General:
g. Ability to pick up new subject areas quickly, understand requirements and work at pace as a self-starter.
h. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a range of analytical, policy, academic and other stakeholders.
i. Strong project management skills and ability to use technical knowledge to steer analysis in appropriate direction with buy-in from stakeholders.
The following aspects are desirable:
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system and reducing reoffending of England & Wales.
• Understanding of the Civil Service Code1 and the importance of its core values of integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality.
• Experience or knowledge of interrogating longitudinal datasets.
Key Tasks & Deliverables
For this assignment – The post holder/s will be responsible for (under supervision by an analytical manager):
• Identifying and conducting appropriate novel analyses of a large data-share. Including data cleaning, descriptive statistics and suitable statistical analysis including multivariate analysis.
• Using the assigned research question, manage the project from scoping to interrogating the data, undertaking the analysis, quality assurance to communication of the findings.
• Ensuring robust quality assurance of own analysis and supporting the quality assurance of analysis across the wider team in line with Aqua Book guidance.
• Building relationships with analytical, policy and academic experts to understand relevant data and reducing reoffending landscape.
• Clearly communicating complex analysis to non-technical customers which includes producing a publishable, written report on results and the development of suitable infographics.
Qualifications, Training & Certificates
The successful candidate will have a valid DBS or be willing to apply for one on CV submission or when a job offer has been made and accepted. This assignment sits inside IR35.
