Job Description
The public sector client is looking to recruit a User Researcher for a 6 month temporary contract, which is likely to be ongoing thereafter and enables you to work remotely during the duration of the contract, with occasional travel to the client’s head office in either London or Leeds. Once restrictions ease, you will be required to attend the office as and when requested by the client, however, currently the assignment is remote.
The NHS.UK team manages the NHS website for England, which is the UK’s biggest health website, with more than 50 million visits every month. We passionately believe it’s important that people engage with their health, care and wellbeing so they can stay healthy and help manage any long-term health conditions. We provide thousands of clinically validated articles, videos and tools, and millions of people also access our content through partner websites, apps & internet-connected devices. More than 2,000 organisations share our content, including other NHS websites, local authorities, charities and commercial organisations. Essential Skills & Experience
Essential experience:
• Must be able to lead on the design, management and execution of user research (qualitative, quantitative and usability research) with both the public and relevant professionals
• Will need to lead joint analysis with agile team members to produce findings, as well as regularly sharing research findings with their team, ensuring that team members have a good understanding of issues coming out of research and of user needs.
• Help to lead the strategic direction of their team through high quality user insight
• Collaborate with user researchers in other teams (although they will not need to line manage anyone for these projects)
• Have experience of GDS service assessments
• Have experience of embedding agile user centred design research in teams and with stakeholders who are inexperienced in that way of working
Key Tasks & Deliverables
About this role:
The Campaigns team at NHS.UK work with public health campaigns and how they can be translated onto NHS.UK. The biggest area of research the team have coming up is support of the Better Health product family, ranging from larger discoveries on sites such as StartForLife to smaller improvements to Every Mind Matters quiz and some new features/IA within Better Health.
As a User Researcher, your main responsibilities would be to:
• Design, manage and execute user research (qualitative, quantitative, collaborative, online and usability research) with both the public and relevant professionals.
• Help to lead the strategic direction of the programme, in a user centred approach, through high quality user insight
• Communicate with sensitivity and diplomacy to ensure the right direction is followed and that user needs are at the forefront of the design process
• Supervise, line manage and develop associate user researchers (where applicable)
• Embed Agile, User-Centered Design principles into the team
Qualifications, Training & Certificates
• Degree in HCI/Usability/Cognitive Psychology/Market Research or related. (Related degrees include degrees that included taught and practical research modules).
• Experience of working in the health sector / knowledge of the health sector
• Previous public sector experience
