Key Tasks & Deliverables

UK Governance Group (UKGG) brings together the Constitution Group in Cabinet Office, the Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland, the Office of the Secretary of State for Wales and the Office of the Advocate General for Scotland. UKGG has responsibility for one of the most important agendas facing this Government, the management of the constitutional and devolution settlements. This involves engagement with an extensive legislative agenda, working across all UK Government Departments and the Devolved Administrations, a wide-ranging and complex stakeholder environment and some of the most controversial and critical political issues facing the UK Government.
Constitution Group is responsible for policy on elections, Parliament, devolution and constitutional matters and is currently delivering a range of key Government priorities across these agendas. Candidates joining Constitution Group will have the opportunity to work on high profile policy areas and in a fast moving, political environment with a passion for delivering a first class public service. The Constitution Group has an excellent reputation across Government and works in partnership with others in the Cabinet Office and across Whitehall, with the devolved administrations, Parliament and with the academic community.
The UK Governance Division brings together key policy issues and takes a strategic view across the whole of the UK Government to ensure effective governance structures are in place and strengthened across the UK. This includes providing expert devolution advice to ministers, cabinet committees, central teams and Departments to deliver strong and positive intergovernmental relations. In addition to this, we lead on bilateral and multilateral engagement within the wider UK family, delivering Ministerial and senior official level meetings that covers a range of policy areas that are of importance to the UK Government.
The Cabinet Office Electoral Integrity Programme (EIP) will deliver key Government manifesto and ministerial commitments including the national roll out of Voter ID; making it easier for overseas electors to vote; improving the transparency of political campaigning; measures to prevent any foreign interference in elections, improving the security of postal and proxy voting; and making polling stations more accessible. To deliver this transformational work, it is expected that the Cabinet Office will introduce substantial primary legislation into Parliament at the earliest opportunity. The Programme will run change projects concurrently to deliver substantial supporting secondary legislation, digital innovation and the infrastructure across the United Kingdom to support the successful delivery of the Government’s vision.
As an accredited member of the Government’s Major Projects Portfolio, this is an exciting time to join our dynamic and growing programme team and make your contribution to the most significant set of changes to electoral law by the UK Government in many years. The Programme is ambitious and substantial and continues to draw significant attention within Parliament, across the media and from a wide variety of commentators interested in how our democracy works.
