Job Description

The public sector client is looking to recruit a Senior Project Manager for a 6 month temporary contract which, enables you to work remotely, however on occasion, you may be asked to visit the office.

Purpose of job:

Senior Project Manager on end-to-end delivery of complex technical and business change elements of an enterprise wide Transformation Programme. The role will agree and manage concurrent projects, that link to business and technology (ITSM Toolset) .

Context and environment:

As a Senior Project Manager, you will be a proactive individual with the skills and experience to deliver complex projects with a large number of internal and external stakeholders. You will have operated at a senior level in project delivery environment and understand the ingredients for successful project delivery. With a strong PPM leadership and delivery background at a senior level, you will have extensive experience of planning, dependency management, dynamic and insightful reporting, stakeholder management and delivery.
The FCDO works in a waterfall environment but transitioning more towards agile therefore you will have prior experience of this.

Clearance: The successful candidate will have a valid active SC Clearance.

Essential Skills & Experience

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Experience of delivering technology and change projects at an enterprise level.

Experience of working within a similar large-scale public-sector programme and service management structure.
Experience of managing formal project delivery, including the production of business cases, investments, appraisals, project initiation, documentation and project controls.
Managing projects risks and issues, adherence to quality assurance processes.
Key relationships: (internal and external) SRO – Senior Management Team – Portfolio Owner – Commercial Director – Contracts manager

Core Essential Skills: Leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective and credible professional relationships. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Self motivated and proactive, working well in a team environment and under your own initiative. Excellent financial management and communications skills.

Desirable Skills: Development of project planning across multiple highly complex projects/programmes. Knowledge of OJEU compliant procurements, ideally within central government.

Key Tasks & Deliverables

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:

Business Case – Lead in the development of the Business Case

Benefits Realisation – Ensure benefits are identified, understood, measured, tracked and owned. Ensure appropriate Benefits Realisation Strategy is in place, and monitor longer term delivery of benefits against the Business Case

Budget Management – Track delivery within budget.

Change Management – Ensure effective Change Management processes are in place to agree and document changes to deliverables as agreed with stakeholders.

Governance – Provide key reports and information to stakeholders to support effective governance and decision making

Dependency Management – Identify and manage dependencies between the project and other projects and escalate to stakeholders as necessary.

Risks & Issues – Identify and monitor project related strategic and operational risks and issues. Implement mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate

Stakeholder Management – Lead stakeholders through Governance to build consensus across a large and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders across the supply chain.

Management and leadership across work streams to ensure delivery of required objectives setting direction and empowering team members.

Build strong relationships with the Work Stream Leads/Project Managers to ensure that all project plans are consistent, at the same maturity level and adhere to the Programme Planning Strategy, initiating corrective action as appropriate.

Qualifications, Training & Certificates

Essential: Association of Project Management (APM) Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent Prince 2

Desirable: APM Practitioner , PMO Practitioner , ITIL Qualification, Agile
