Job Description
The public sector client is looking to recruit a Lead User Researcher for a 6 month temporary contract which enables you to work remotely throughout the assignment. The client is based in London.
To lead research activities supporting the User Centred Policy Design team, who are exploring how employers and providers are working together to design and deliver Skills Bootcamps.
The team are running a small-scale Discovery to generate initial insights around what is working and what isn’t. These will require further exploration and validation over time.
They are focusing on the experiences of employers and providers from the second wave of Bootcamps, feeding their insights into policy discussions around a future ‘Steady State’.

• Strategic insight. You understand organisational strategy and objectives. You can align user research activities with objectives to create strategic insights that inform policy and proposition.
• User-centred and agile practices. You understand user-centred design practices and know how to embed them into an agile workflow to deliver timely findings. You can work in an open, iterative and collaborative way in a multidisciplinary team.

More on the Social research side rather than too heavy on the UX – need a broader scope in terms of research focus
Must be a leader of the social research type team
Key Tasks & Deliverables
Objectives include:
1. To design and deliver research outputs across a 6-8 Discovery piece of research
2. Support the departments’ wider moves to deliver user-centred services in line with the government service standard.
3. Support the department’s move to build civil servant capability in user-centred design skills. This may include proactive assistance with training, coaching, and skills and knowledge transfer.
4. To support the UCPD team with knowledge management, so that insights and design decisions are more easily accessible and have a greater impact across the department
5. Help to build UCD representation and provide user-centred narratives in order to inform better decision-making across the department.
Scope and Objectives
For a User Research Lead to come in on an interim basis for a maximum of 120 days work and develop recommendations for the User Centred Policy Design Team as part of a multidisciplinary team, handing over to policy and delivery colleagues working at pace.
Qualifications, Training & Certificates
The successful candidate will have a valid DBS or be willing to apply for one on CV submission or when a job offer has been made and accepted. This assignment sits inside IR35.
