Job Description

The public sector client is looking to recruit a Data Engineer for a 6 month temporary contract, which likely to extend thereafter. The client has advised that you can work mostly remotely for this assignment, with occasional visits to the office. The client is based in Durham, so ideally you will be located close to the client’s office in Durham.

 

 

 

Essential Skills & Experience

You must have SQL/Azure data skills

Desirable: ·Experience in manipulation of health and care data ·Experience in quality and safety management standards ·Experience in using Cloud based services
Key Skills:
• Highly developed analytical skills to interpret complex data specifications and requirements
• Effective interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to interpret and communicate complex information
• Logical approach to problem solving
• Advanced keyboard skills
• An ability to innovate to tackle problems
• Highly developed knowledge of enterprise level data platforms including Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent products
• Expert knowledge of data manipulation tools and techniques
• Proficient in the use of SQL and scripting solutions to manipulate and transform large and complex relational datasets
• Knowledge of information governance standards for data security and confidentiality and an understanding of their application in practice
Ideally experience of working with large health data sets.

Key Tasks & Deliverables

Operational ·Build and maintain data pipelines and ensure our products are robust, performant, safe and cost effective. ·Undertake the extraction, transformation, loading, cleansing and testing of data using a variety of in-house and enterprise solutions. ·Ensure data processes are automated through a range of technologies including Robotics Process Automation, extensive scripting and broader integration approaches. ·Produce and present initial solution ‘end to end’ prototypes as working models for user evaluation and in preparation for full scale development and deployment. ·Select possible logical solution options using appropriate components and technologies suitable to form the architecture and data component design and present technical options and recommendations. ·Provide support to client/customer data solutions acting as a specialist consultant working to the client’s processes and procedures. ·Work closely with client’s business intelligence teams to develop data models and pipelines for reporting, analytics, research and machine learning.  ·Maintain an effective data architecture and operational service model that is scalable and agile enough to meet varying use cases. ·Support the development and documentation of quality standards covering all aspects of data and technical processes.  ·Contribute to the development of internal best practice development methodologies, solution documentation and standards. ·Ensure that proportionate security and data protection protocols are incorporated into solution designs. ·Support the deployment of solutions into a fully managed and maintained operational environment following appropriate release and change control.

As a Data Engineer your duties will include:

-Working within a team of data experts, support the provisioning of data platforms and tooling underpinning numerous corporate and customer facing services. You will aid the design, development, testing and operation of data products in an agile manner with an appropriate technology architecture.

-A key component of the role is improving processes to ensure they remain safe, efficient and effective.
-As technology evolves you will embrace opportunities to enhance the service offering by researching, piloting and establishing use cases to embrace leading edge solutions.
-Experience in integrating solutions using data pipelines
-Significant experience in manipulation of complex data, data processes, products and platforms
-Extensive experience in automating data processing routines through specialist software, scripting and bespoke development tools
-Experience of operating within a formal and structured data environment utilising formal change control arrangements
-Experience in analysing and documenting processes and requirements to inform the design of solutions

Qualifications, Training & Certificates

Qualifications – Essential: ·Professional qualification at degree level in an information related discipline or equivalent experience. Evidence of continued professional development

Desirable: Microsoft Certified Specialist

The successful candidate will have a valid DBS or be willing to apply for one on CV submission or when a job offer has been made and accepted.  This assignment sits inside IR35.
