Job Description

The public sector client is looking to recruit 2 Digital Java Developers for a 6 month temporary contract based in Newcastle or any DfE site. The successful candidates will be office based for most of the contract, however, the client is flexible with remote working for part of the assignment, or until the restrictions ease.

Your immediate focus will be on taking over an existing Java code base which is a combination of web site, SOAP and RESTful services and scheduled data extract jobs.

We are looking for you to enhance and support the components in line with project goals and delivery cycles, while working openly and collaboratively in our team. Above all, you will want to make an impact, which may sometimes involve challenging current methods. This will be developing web products using both front-end web development languages and back-end technologies for internal and external use. There is an expected need to rewrite or reimplement some code elements in c# so developers with a knowledge of c# would be useful.

As a senior software developer, you will also coach and mentor other developers in new technology and processes such as agile development, software patterns and TDD/BDD. You will be part of our developer group which ensures that knowledge is shared across the department. You will have responsibility for ensuring that your work forms part of the client’s integrated approach to secure and responsible information handling.

The successful candidate will have a valid DBS or be willing to apply for one on CV submission or when a job offer has been made and accepted. This assignment sits inside IR35.
