Job Description
The public sector client is looking to recruit a Data Scientists for a 200 days temporary contract based in Fareham. Due to the nature of this assignment the client will require applications from UK British Nationals. The successful candidate will have a valid SC Clearance. Please Note: This assignment sits inside IR35.
Essential Skills & Experience
Essential – This is a must have:
• Experience in deploying (e.g. using Docker, Ansible) and evaluating relevant supervised and unsupervised machine learning approaches.
• Experience working with data at scale, including social media.
• Proficiency in using open-source programming and scripting languages such as Python, R and / or Java, particularly with machine learning and data science toolkits and libraries (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Stanford NLP).
• Mid-level programming; you do not have to be able to write highly scalable production code but you do need to be able to build prototypes and be able to understand the existing code base.
• Experience of building queries using existing relational databases and / or Knowledge Graphs.
• Good oral and written communication skills, including communicating with non-technical stakeholders and working within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable:
• Experience conducting research in a Defence and Security Context, particularly in the areas of Information Activities or Intelligence.
• Expertise in Text Analytics and /or Graph Analytics.
• Experience in using Amazon Web Services, specifically the Machine Learning services such as Sagemaker.
• Experience of using Generative Adversarial Neural Networks (GAN)
• A working understanding of statistics and statistical models.
• Experience working with large-scale data processing systems (such as Spark and Hadoop).
• Awareness and experience of social media technology and trends.
Key Tasks & Deliverables
The main duties for the Data Scientist role are as follows:
• Lead tasks and work as part of a team developing, trialling and experimenting with novel approaches in the areas outlined above.
• Develop, expand, deploy and evaluate sophisticated Data Analysis and Machine Learning (ML) approaches applied to a range of data including social media, news, social research data, imagery and open-source databases and aggregators.
• Design and develop innovative solutions to complex data-oriented challenge.
• Support definition of infrastructure, software and data requirements to support trials and experimentations.
• Act as a Technical Advisor and Intelligent Customer for suppliers delivering services and projects.
• Attend, and provide technical presentations at, key reviews and stakeholder meetings.
• Subject to COVID 19 restrictions, the role will require a combination of home and client core-site working, and / or working as part of a team at a customer site approximately 1 hour of the clients home site.
