Job Description
The public sector client is looking to recruit 5 Analysts for a very short term temporary contract of 3 weeks, which enables you to work remotely.
About the client and the purpose of the job:
Delivering justice for victims: A consultation on improving victims’ experiences of the justice system.
The MoJ launched the Victims Bill Consultation on 9th December 2021. This is the first significant step towards introducing a historic ‘Victims’ Law’ and delivering a step-change in the support victims receive and how it is coordinated. The consultation will allow the government to hear from victims, experts, and those across the criminal justice system.
The victims bill consultation team is looking to recruit contractors with analytical abilities and a policy background who could help with the analysis of incoming responses. Contractors are needed for a maximum period of three weeks, starting at the beginning of February 2022.
This role constitutes a unique opportunity to learn more about the criminal justice and victims’ sector and gain important policy insights.
Essential Skills & Experience
Requirements (essential):
• Able to process large amounts of information quickly, including on unfamiliar subjects
• Have strong analytical skills. This involves
o The ability to identify patterns and trends in responses and to identify themes.
o The ability to distinguish between objective responses based on strong evidence and more subjective responses
o The ability to understand existing “codes” and being able to decide which one applies best (if any)
o The ability to summarise complex arguments and put them in relation to one another.
• Able to maintain quality of work at a pace and work under pressure.
• Have attention to detail
• Pick up detail and dissect complex arguments on a subject they may be unfamiliar with.
• Work well within a small team and support other individuals when required.
Requirements (preferred):
• Able to link consultation responses to policy analysis and the drafting of the Victims’ Bill
• Experienced in data-driven policy analysis.
Key Tasks & Deliverables
About the role (tasks):
Contractors will be asked to help with the qualitative analysis of incoming consultation responses. Specifically, they will have to: Read and comprehend responses at pace
Use a “code book” to analyse responses. To be clear, no technical coding is required. The word “code” is used in this context to describe possible response types/themes, e.g. “yes” or “no”. Analysts will have to use a list of codes for each question and tick the appropriate “codes” after having read a response. Where responses cannot be captured by existing “codes”, analysts will be asked to summarise key arguments/opinions/evidence provided.
Analysts will have to work as a team to provide some short qualitative analysis of responses at the end of reviewing a question.
Each analyst will have targets to reach each day, their speed of processing must be fast.
Analysts can discuss any concerns with responses or unusual comments with their manager. This includes any content they can’t place into the code or responses that might be unclear or complex.
Qualifications, Training & Certificates
The successful candidate will have a valid DBS or be willing to apply for one on CV submission or when a job offer has been made and accepted. This assignment sits inside IR35.
